NEW IN 1.0.3FOR AI ASSISTANTS

Let an AI assistant
sort your inbox.

Applicant Packager now includes applicants, a command-line tool that AI assistants such as Claude Code can run on your computer. Ask in plain words, and the assistant exports the applications, opens the CVs and drafts a shortlist for you to check.

  • One request, every application filed. Each applicant gets a folder with their CV and email, plus a spreadsheet list of who applied.
  • Read-only and local. The tool never changes your mailbox and uploads nothing to us.
  • You still decide. The assistant's shortlist is a starting point. Review every candidate yourself.

Free and installed with the app. Works with the Thunderbird mailbox on your computer. An AI assistant that reads exported CVs sends their contents to its provider, so check your organization allows it.

BUILT AROUND YOUR MAILBOX

Applicant data stays
under your control.

The desktop app processes on your computer. It has no developer-operated cloud processing, telemetry, or online activation.

IMAP connects directly to your email provider. Files saved into shared or synced folders follow your own storage setup.

01

Keep the tools you use.Work with a local Thunderbird mailbox or a compatible IMAP account.

02

Pick up where you left off.Already-shown application messages are skipped in new-batch mode.

03

Make retention your policy.History stores applicant metadata locally. Your organization manages access, retention, and deletion.

NEW IN 1.0.6WHAT CHANGED

A calmer review screen.
CVs that match on their contents.

Version 1.0.6 brings the desktop app in line with this site and makes a scan look inside the CV itself, not only at the subject, the text of the email and the attachment names.

  • A new look.Floating cards, quieter header buttons, a cleaner candidate table with a strength dot and a score bar per row, and a candidate card that shows why something matched.
  • Reads inside the CV.PDF, Word and text attachments are read on your computer, so a CV named resume.pdf can match on what it actually says, and the reason says where the hit came from.
  • Only the last few days.Limit a scan pass to the last 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, 30 or 90 days (or any number you type), so a quick daily check does not walk the whole mailbox.
  • Photo and scanned CVs.Phone photos and image-only PDFs go through the OCR engine that already ships with Windows 10 and 11. Nothing is uploaded and no model is downloaded.
  • Everything else is unchanged.Read-only mailbox access, no account, no telemetry, Thunderbird and IMAP with an app password. Sign in with Microsoft stays in testing for 1.1.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE

  • Turn the CV reading off per search if you only want subject and body matches
  • Scanned CVs are skipped, not failed, when Windows has no OCR language installed
  • Deleting scan history also deletes the CV text cached with it

Windows SmartScreen will warn on first launch because the build is unsigned. That is expected; the app claims no signed/trusted status.

AT A GLANCE

Applicant Packager in one list

BEFORE YOU START

A few useful
things to know.

Have a different question?
Email support

Is it really free?

Yes. The current release has every feature with no trial period, time limit, or account. There is no checkout. Donations are optional and change nothing in the app.

Which computers and email accounts does it support?

Applicant Packager is a Windows desktop application. It reads local Thunderbird mbox files and connects to compatible IMAP accounts. Gmail, Yahoo and most other providers need an app password, and mailboxes that only offer OAuth sign-in, including Outlook.com, are not supported in 1.0.6. Sign in with Microsoft for Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 is in testing for version 1.1, and you can help test it. See how to connect Outlook, Yahoo and other mailboxes. Contact us if you need help checking compatibility.

Does it decide who should be hired?

No. Scores are based on role and keyword matches in email subjects, bodies, and attachment filenames. They are not a qualification assessment. Review the original application and apply your own lawful, job-related recruitment process.

Will the same applicant appear again?

New-batch mode remembers application messages already shown for the same mailbox and criteria. The app shows Seen before for an exact message repeat, and Likely repeat or Uncertain when a separate application shares a sender address; the reason appears in candidate details. These are hints for human review, not verified identities. Revised applications remain separate messages you can review. Changing search criteria can return previously processed messages.

Does the app read or change my email?

It reads messages to find matches. Mailboxes are accessed read-only; it does not move or delete messages or mark them as read. Selected attachments are saved separately. Close Thunderbird before scanning its local mailbox, and use SSL/TLS for IMAP.

Does local processing mean nothing is stored?

No. The app saves scan history containing names, senders, subjects, and match metadata, plus attachments you choose to download. It has no automatic retention cleanup or application-level file encryption. Protect your computer and manage retention according to your organization’s policy.

Can I sort applications from the command line?

Yes. Version 1.0.3 also installs applicants, a free read-only command-line tool that files every application since a date into its own folder with a spreadsheet list, and works with scripts and AI assistants. See how to use it.

How do I verify the download?

Run certutil -hashfile ApplicantPackager-1.0.6-setup.exe SHA256 and compare with the SHA-256 published above. Do not install if they differ.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Uninstalling removes the app but keeps your scan history, accounts, settings, and downloaded files. Only an explicit data-removal choice deletes them.

I already have a licence file. Do I need it?

No. The free release never asks for one. An imported licence stays recorded but changes nothing.
